It should be stated, right from the start, that natural hormone replacement therapy is not embraced by all doctors and that the majority of academic doctors do not support its use. So why do we?
Because we find it works. Because we find it helpful. Because to those of us in cosmetic medicine, who use medical techniques not just to treat defined illnesses but to amplify and enhance our patients' experiences of life, by optimising their appearances, it is a natural progression to want to try to optimise their internal milieaus as well.
Any dietician or naturopath can advise you about your diet and exercise program and can help you optimise these variables of your life. We have our favourites to whom we refer our patients. But only a doctor can take this process beyond food groups and vitamins into the realm of hormones.
Any doctor will recall that the very first lectures of an undergraduate physiology course focus on the human cell and its needs. Fluid and electrolyte balances, tonicity, Na/K pumps, calcium channels, mitochondria and ribosomes. One learns about the cells needs in terms of water and electrolytes and carbohydrates and proteins and fats and vitamins.
Cells need hormonal stimulation as well, and this can't be supplied in the diet.
We have excellent homeostatic mechanisms to ensure correct hormonal stimulation is supplied to our cells well into adulthood, and well long enough for us to achieve (if we are going to achieve) the Darwinian goal of successful procreation (not talking here about moral rights or wrongs, just evolutionary facts).
But thereafter things start to go astray, as well they might, because one can't postulate an evolutionary mechanism by which longevity systems can be evolved beyond those helpful for species propagation.
So, once the kids (you had as a teenager, Darwinism knew no condoms) have reached their majority and are themselves parents, you have o further biological role and Mother Nature doesn't love you any more.
So, homeostatic mechanisms start to break down. I'm sure I'm not telling anyone anything they don't already know.
Hormonal levels start to fall. And cells suffer.
Natural hormone replacement therapy seeks to optimise the hormonal milieau in which your cells do their work. It uses forms of hormone that are identical to the forms your own body creates (hence "natural"), as opposed to patented but unnatural forms produced by pharmaceutical companies.
We try, at Peach, to assess your hormonal status and we try to optimise your hormonal levels with conservative prescriptions of natural hormone forms.
Our patients describe feeling better, and thank us.
