Here's what you need to know about our vascular laser (KTP 532nm)

The vascular laser treats dilated veins and broken capillaries and other small red spots on the face and upper body by shining a bright green laser (532nm) for a few milliseconds at the troublesome vessel. Such a laser will pass through skin without ill effects but will strike red blood cells and cause them to heat up. These heated red blood cells will damage the blood vessel and cause it to collapse and fibrose. Thus, the laser causes shrinkage and likely disappearance of the visible and unwanted dilated blood vessels. 

Probably the most popular treatment today for facial broken blood vessels, dilated capillaries and "telangiectasia" is intense pulsed light (IPL). We know, because we have the pre-eminent IPL machine, the Quantum, at Peach.

Nonetheless, the word in the cosmetic medicine world is that other options can offer advantages to the IPL in some cases.

Particularly when facial vessels are thick, treatment with a 532nm vascular laser will generally bring about faster results with less discomfort. Focussing the energy into a small point of light only a millimetre in diameter allows finer targeting of specific troublesome vessels.
On the other hand, the advantages of the IPL include the ability to treat larger areas at once, due to the light being flashed through a 8mm x 35mm window. Such a window, or "spot size", allows the IPL to evenly treat conditions marked by general redness such as acne rosacea, and to efficiently treat lots of fine vessels at once.

Therefore, to treat everyone, it's best to offer both options, as we do at Peach.

Side effects are few and generally inconsequential. The vascular laser causes a stinging, often described as like a needle, during the instant of the treatment. Afterwards, there may be mild redness for a day or two. Occasionally a fine crust will develop over the line of the treated blood vessel. As with all laser treatments, eye protection is essential whilst the laser beam is
being applied. In sum, side effects are minor and the vast majority of patients get good results first time, although some may need a second treatment. 

One final thing. Although this laser is principally used for treating vascular problems, it also extremely well suited for the treatment of small pigmented lesions of a benign and superficial nature, such as individual freckles, seborrheic keratoses, and the like. Seek a cosmetic medical consultation about any such spots to see if yours are suitable for treatment.
