We ask every Peach patient about their past history of childhood sunburns and about their current sun-exposure habits. We ruthlessly discount our popular sunscreen moisturisers to make them as available as possible. As an Australian medical practice concerned primarily with the management of skin we are very aware of our responsibilities regarding the prevention, detection and management of skin cancer.
Peach is not primarily a skin cancer practice, but we are assessing skin and diagnosing skin lesions every day. We are ready to biopsy or excise any skin lesion about which there is any doubt.
Dr Mahony once took this same approach to a 3mm spot on his own back, which turned out to be an early melanoma (Breslow 0.4mm, Clark level 2). You'll be happy to know the subsequent excision appeared complete, and that he has experienced no further recurrence in the 7 years that have since elapsed.
