Hair loss

"Girls are seldom enthralled
By blokes who are bald"

Dorothy Parker

Any male concerned about scalp hair loss should first talk to his doctor or Dr. John Mahony at Peach, about medication to reduce and, with luck, halt and even reverse this process. He should ask the doctor to prescribe the other version of the same drug that is produced to treat prostate enlargement. Taking one-fifth of a tablet of this other version every day is far cheaper than taking the version marketed for reducing hair loss, and as it is a private prescription there is no reason why your doctor cannot prescribe it this way.

There is also a scalp solution marketed to treat male pattern baldness but it doesn’t work as well and if ever this treatment is suspended the new hair (which is, in any case, quite fine) tends to fall out. It seems more trouble and expense than it is worth.

Hair transplant?
Walking down the street, I can honestly say I’ve never noticed a really good hair transplant. But think about what I have said. Penny dropped? Really good hair transplants are unnoticeable. Bad transplants look terrible and obvious. Consequently, hair transplant surgery has a poorer reputation than it deserves.

Contemporary unifollicular hair transplant surgery is an extremely labour-intensive process requiring a team of technicians assisting the surgeon. Cosmetic physicians and cosmetic surgeons offering a comprehensive range of treatments, such as Peach, tend not to offer hair transplant services. We refer to clinics that are wholly dedicated to this specific task. For unbiased advice about hair transplantation come in to Peach for a consultation, and if we think it would be a suitable treatment for you we can refer you to the right people.

Loss of, or absence of, adequate eyebrow hair can be genetic or arise from alopecia or trauma or excessive plucking. Whilst in specialised centers hair transplant surgery can be performed to produce viable growing hair in an eyebrow location, the more usual treatment is to treat the eyebrow area with cosmetic tattooing.

Michelle Curran, our Peach Cosmetic Medicine specialist has been performing cosmetic tattooing for over 15 years, and is often called upon to correct the errors of other cosmetic tattooists in
Sydney. Consult Michelle about improving the appearance of your eyebrow line.
